Coaching

"A condition of complete simplicity costing not less than everything."
T.S. Eliot

I am offering coaching at the highest level for all aspects of acting and performance, from Shakespeare to radio, corporate presentations to best man speeches. Unlock your full potential.

Acting 1:1

I am offering 1:1 acting tuition at every experience level and to suit each personal ambition.

Perhaps you are at school and need help with a GCSE or A Level Theatre Studies project, or you are considering auditioning for Drama school and would like coaching on your monologues. Maybe you are a professional with an audition or self tape to prepare who would like some help. Do you already have a job and would like to run scenes and get advice from a highly experienced professional? I have even helped people who had no interest in becoming actors, but loved poetry and wanted to learn how to speak it and therefore appreciate it more fully.

Whatever your individual needs are they will be met with the depth of experience outlined in my biography page.

In my career I have brushed up against the methods of all the great practitioners, from Meisner to Mamet, Stanislavsky to Strasberg, not to mention the highly individual approaches of all the directors and actors I have been fortunate enough to have worked with. I have therefore been able to cherry-pick the things that I believe are most useful and develop my own way of working and it is this that I offer to you.

I can meet you online, at my home in South East London, or I can travel to you.

If you think I might be able to help you please get in touch for a free 30 minute consultation with no obligation.

The Art of Shakespeare

There is a lot of nonsense spoken about Shakespeare and, on the whole, he is terribly taught. Add this to the fact that he is not particularly well performed most of the time and it is no wonder that he terrifies actors and leaves students and audiences cold.

I can help take the curse off the greatest writer that has ever lived and bring you to an understanding and an even deeper appreciation of his extraordinary talent, an exercise which will also serve to unlock your own creative abilities.
To do so I have come up with a five point approach to Shakespeare which I outline in the video below.
Have a look and if it interests you then get in touch with no obligation.

"The most exciting and versatile actor to emerge from the RSC in years."
The Guardian

Public Speaking

I am also offering coaching on other elements of performance, loosely covered by the description “public speaking”.

Maybe your job involves giving presentations and you would like to learn how to connect to a room more effectively.
Perhaps you would like advice on a speech you've written and how best to convey it's message.
Do you want help in improving your vocal tone and achieving a more commanding and charismatic presence?
Perhaps you need to develop and give a one off speech at a birthday, wedding or funeral.
If any of these or other examples of getting up and speaking in front of people apply to your situation and you need help in conquering your fear and unlocking your potential...

The Business of Acting

Being an actor doesn't just involve auditioning, knowing your lines and doing all the necessary character work unfortunately. There are also a number of logistics involved which I can advise you on.

Which agents would be good and suitable for you and how much commission should you be paying them.
Where to get good headshots and which would be the best to accurately represent you.
Maybe you are in the fortunate position of being able to choose between jobs and would like advice on which to choose at certain points in your career.
Where to find a good singing, dialect or voice coach.
Advice on your self tape set up at home.

If you would like advice on any of the above or any other aspects of the “business”. Get in touch for a free 30 minute consultation.

Testimonials

What my customers have said about my coaching.

"As an actor Jonathan can not only hold his own with anyone in the world, but he can also explain how it's done."
Bill Nighy
"Jonathan is a class act, one of the most respected actors of his generation and is able to talk about acting with precision and thankfully without pretension. I'm thrilled that he's going to be sharing his knowledge and vast experience with us all at last."
Andrew Lincoln
"Jonathan Slinger is a uniquely powerful actor with more classical experience than anyone else of his generation. What makes Jonathan different is his marriage of acquired skill with deep human instincts. If you want to learn how to make craft feel utterly natural, almost accidental, you're in the right place."
David Farr
"Jonathan Slinger has been a huge inspiration to me. I am always awestruck and invigorated by his performances and astounded by his ability to communicate thoughts and ideas about acting with curiosity and clarity."
Sam Hazeldine
"Jonathan's depth of knowledge, his understanding of text and how to bring it to life in a way that feels immediate, human and utterly compelling is extraordinary. His feedback is clear, incisive, constructive and always delivered with genuine care."
Brigid Zengeni
"Jonathan's work combines the utmost respect for craft and technique, whilst encouraging his students to be playful, risk taking and to enjoy the wonderful gift of performance for stage or screen. His professional work speaks for itself and to learn from his experience is invaluable. Highly recommended!"
